Proximity Coaching combines AI-guided emotional support with live human coaching, offering a new hybrid model for emotional wellness in the AI era.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — As artificial intelligence rapidly reshapes how people work, communicate, and seek support, emotional health experts Dr. John Schinnerer and Joree Rose, LMFT, are asking a different question than most in the AI space:
What if AI could become a bridge back to healthier human connection instead of a replacement for it?
That question became the foundation for Proximity Coaching, a new hybrid emotional wellness platform combining real-time AI-guided emotional support with live human coaching, community, and relationship skill-building.
The launch comes at a time when emotional isolation and AI companionship are rapidly accelerating simultaneously.
According to the American Psychiatric Association’s 2025 “Stress in America” report, nearly half of U.S. adults report regularly experiencing loneliness or emotional disconnection, while anxiety, burnout, and emotional overwhelm continue rising across age groups.
At the same time, a 2026 Bipartisan Policy Center survey found that nearly 30% of U.S. adults have already used AI chatbots or digital tools for mental health support, emotional guidance, or companionship, with significantly higher usage among younger generations. Additional 2026 research from Cognitive FX found that nearly 40% of Americans now use AI chatbots weekly for some form of emotional support.
Researchers believe many people are turning to AI because it feels immediate, available 24/7, affordable, accessible, and less intimidating than traditional support systems.
But psychologists and researchers continue warning that AI alone cannot replace healthy human relationships, emotional accountability, co-regulation, community, or professional mental health care.
Schinnerer and Rose believe that tension represents one of the most important mental health and technology conversations of the next decade.
“We don’t believe the future of emotional support is human versus AI,” said Schinnerer, psychologist, executive coach, author, and founder of The Evolved Caveman and Guide To Self. “We believe the future is emotionally intelligent technology guided by real human connection, accountability, and community.”
Unlike most AI coaching platforms, Proximity Coaching was intentionally designed around ongoing human integration rather than AI dependency.
The platform combines:
24/7 AI-guided emotional support
live biweekly Zoom coaching groups
emotional regulation and communication tools
relationship repair frameworks
journaling prompts and emotional check-ins
accountability and community support
and real-time guidance for moments of conflict, stress, anxiety, emotional flooding, or relational disconnection
Rather than positioning itself as a replacement for therapy, Proximity Coaching was designed to complement emotional support systems by extending practical guidance into the moments where people often struggle most — especially between therapy or coaching sessions.
“Therapy is weekly. Emotional life is hourly,” Schinnerer said. “People need support during difficult conversations, after conflict, in moments of anxiety, shutdown, loneliness, or overwhelm — not just inside scheduled appointments.”
